I have a mac, from which I can connect to the BT Openzone hotspot using wireless but when I try to access the Internet my browser tells me there's no Internet connection.

I would at least expect to see a login page or something (I'm a BT Infinity customer and supposedly BT WiFi access comes included).

Any ideas what's going on? It's frustrating because it would save me having to fork out for more MBs on my 3G dongle!

Is it a proper Openzone hotspot, or a Fon connection on a BT customers router?

I've had this problem with some Fon connections - the wireless connects fine but I just can't log in either through a browser or the BT app on my phone. When I looked in to it it seems a common problem with no real explanation.

I think it's some sort of software problem on the router, or possibly that the router isn't connected to the Internet for some reason.

I did get this at a mates house once - Fon would connect wireless but no login, connecting to the router normally worked fine. After power cycling the router Fon came back working fine. I guess most people never bother rebooting the router if it's working for them.

In the list of available wireless connections it shows as BTOpenzone. I have 3/5 bars signal strength.

However, while connected I have a 169 IP address which explains why I cannot get onto the Internet. So the gateway is not issuing me an IP. Something local on my machine perhaps?
