My Sky wireless router is downstairs and generally the wireless connection throughout the house is OK, signal not brilliant but stable.
My main PC is upstairs and also connects wirelessly OK but its no good for gaming as the connection keeps dropping.

I have connected the Sky router via homeplug network to a Netgear wireless router configured to act as an access point. This is in the same upstairs room as my PC.

This also broadcasts wireless with no problems but I use it to connect via ethernet to my PC for gaming as the connection is uninterrupted, the download speed is of course almost halved but I dont think that makes much difference to my gaming.

In order to avoid a "multiple networks" problem I have to disable wireless on my PC first and then make the ethernet connection and then go through the whole thing in reverse when I finish gaming.
I'm wondering if there is a more "elegant" solution to this gaming issue. Be grateful for any views.

I've now reached the end of my tether.
When connected ethernet the modem now loses internet connection when I want to view a web page with lots of pictures, ie on this boards photography forum .
Also last night my ping went up to 138! I spent well over an hour on the phone to their support and all they did was try to blame me for my connection problems.

Its time to bite the bullet and go back to Virgin cable whatever the cost.
Wish I'd never left them in the first place...doh!

i suspect your access point is not configured properly (DHCP should be off for example, access point IP should ideally be outside the IP range bein issued by the router)

not sure why you need an access point if the homeplug gets the sky internet to the same room why not just plug ethent into the pc and forget wireless?

I take your point about the configuration of the access point but it was done according to the Netgear instructions:

As I said the wireless was for other users upstairs who were having problems with the signal strength from the Sky router.

how long until i get full speed?

When did you start with Sky? For the first few days they say they put you on DLM:

What downstream did Sky predict for your line? Your noise margin seems high. What are your router stats through the test socket?
