Connecting to Windows file shares from a Mac

Hi,

I have a DFS address //domainname.local/fileserver/files/ which I want to access from a Mac, any ideas how I do it please?

I've googled but can't find a clear solution

not to my knowledge. Snow Leopard came on it pre-installed, I'll check that now thank you....

edit: or do you mean something on the windows server?

no then, definately not. Just been to Add/Remove windows components and couldn't see that option though, this is a DFS share by the way if it makes any difference?

You'll find it under Other File and Print Services I think

Not sure if DFS makes a difference

just put the Mac file services on howler, will try again in a bit! thanks for that

That is normally the format! Strange that it doesn't work :confused:

There's a question mark over whether the OSX SMB implementation understands DFS, I thought it did but I could be wrong. What version of OSX are you using?

Ah I see! My old laptop (not used anymore

) was running 10.4 and it connected to Windows shares fine.

To be fair though, that laptop never went near domains or anything.

Well apparently 10.4 definitely doesn't understand DFS (so I hear anyway) but 10.5 onwards might...

Is the mac using the domain controller(s) for name resolution?

Or:

smb://domainname.local

Then when it comes up it should give you a list of all of the shares.
