On my old PC I connected to Xbox Live on my 360 using my PC via ethernet. It was a paid account (nothing dodgy) but it was the only way I could do it as I am on wireless and I'm not willing to fork out £40+ for an additional wireless adaptor.

When I sold my old PC, I wiped the hard drive and forgot to save the link with the information how to do it. Can someone remind me please?

thank god you said that ^ I was waiting for the usual 'bridge connections' poo everyone says you need to do. Just enable ICS as he says.

The 360 is just an ethernet device. There's no need to do anything differently - just set up ICS. The 360 is set to get an IP address via DHCP and when you enable ICS on the PC, it becomes a DHCP server.

Yeah, as has been said, if you didn't need to do anything on the Xbox to get it to work before, it'll more than likely be set up to get the network settings automatically which the PC will provide.

I didn't attempt this in the end as I'm about to change my OS to Windows Vista Ultimate 64.

What do I need to do for this platform?

Doesn't work for me, I just tried it. :( Bridging connection works though so sod it, I'll do that until I can be bothered running the ethernet cable to my router.

You still having trouble with this?

Go into Control Panel and 'Network and Sharing Center'

Click 'Manage Network Connections' and right click whatever network connection you want to share.

Click Properties and then click on the 'Sharing' tab.

Tick the 'Allow other users to use this network connection' option and apply settings.

This will automatically configure the other network adapter in your computer to share the connection. You should configure the Xbox to automatically obtain network settings.
