Hi there, recently i've opened some ports and set a static IP on my xbox. Everything works fine, not been disconnected once.

Only problem is that when i turn my Xbox on it doesn't sign me in automatically. I have to go to Settings and test the Xbox Live connection, then sign in. anything i can do to stop this, and sign me in automatically?

Thanks :)

I used to (almost) have this with my shoddy Belkin router. Now I've upgraded to a nice netgear it always logs in straight away when I turn it on.

Although, having said that I never had to actually run the 'test connection' app, just wait a couple of seconds and then manually do 'connect'. Perhaps retry a couple of times. Sometimes it would just connect by itself when I started a game.

I had a similar issue with the PSN where i had to force it to connect; auto connect would fail. I changed its DNS setting from automatic to OpenDNS (which is free) and it started connecting instantly.

Worth a try as, even if it doesn't work, you tend to find their service is faster than most ISPs DNS servers anyway.

Thanks, i'll have a look at that later (in school at the moment :D)

And to reply to a previous post, im connecting straight to the router with the official Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter.

Before i opened the ports it connected straight away when i turned it on!

That was happening to mines, i tried everything to fix it, to no avail :(

Then one day it really bugged me, so i went into settings and re-done EVERYTHING again, has been perfect ever since :)

Right... now that Live is back up i'm trying some of the methods on here :)
I've tried resetting it, and putting all the information back in. When i changed it all to automatic it connected when switched on, just NAT wasn't open. Changed back to static IP etc and the NAT stays open, but original problem still occurs.

Had a look at OpenDNS, but on my router there doesn't seem to be anywhere to do anything. Just for DynDNS and No-ip. Do i need to register with OpenDNS before i can see it in my router?

No you don't need to register, you just need to tell either the router or the 360 to use the opendns ip addresses. I don't know about the 360 but on the PS3 there is an option to set the DNS server when configuring the connection, does the 360 have something like that?

Yeah, the DNS on the Xbox was set to automatic before. Changed it to OpenDNS's primary and secondard IP address and it's worked. WOOOO :D

Good to hear it. Really should make OpenDNS a sticky or something as it seems to solve 90% of PS3 owners problems and a few 360s too :)
