On my Gigabyte X670E Aorus Elite have a question on the connection of case fans
The Rear fan is fine connects to bottom of Motherboard.

The 4 fan connectors are at bottom of motherboard, SYS_FAN 1/2/3/4
Unfortunately, the 2 pre-installed front Case fans have leads that are too short to reach these connectors.

2 options ... that I can see
There are 2 fan connectors on right hand side of the board that they can reach, although there are only 2 x 4 pin connectors these are labelled as
SYS_FAN/5/6/7/8_pump
Can I use these for the case fans ?
If so, do they work OK as standard (I seem to recall you have to set them to be pump (full on) if used for pump)

Or do I need to get a fan extension cable (presumably a Y cable)

CPU fans are fine, they are connected to CPU_FAN connector at top of board via a Y cable.

Any header that says sys fan can be used for case fans, no problem. If you need to tidy things up a bit get a fan cable extension with a splitter at one end and a single plug at the motherboards end. You could go even further if you have roof mounted fans as well and get a hub that you plug them all into and then have a single lead going to a fan header on the motherboard. Whichever way you choose you can then go into the bios and select a fan profile (silent/standard/performance etc) or set a curve for the fans.

what case / fans, most case fans have massive extensions on them.

but yes a PWM extension will work fine. you can also get powered pwm splitters so you can run 5 off one header. helps to call all the cables behind the motherboard tray
