Well the Vf900 on my X1900 is too loud at full speed in windows and if i slow it down to a decent level then it cant keep my card cool. Has anyone connected their cooler to the header on their gfx card? and if so where would i get the plug to fit?
thanks
Scott

Hi.. not sure what you mean when you say its too loud  :p

But if you think about it, if you did hook it up to the card, it'll be the same as just having it on a fan controller :/ It wont make the fan quieter if its plugged into the card..

but the X1900 will vary the fan speed

But so will your fan controller? Its still gonna be the same volume, its just you'll be doing it manually.. but it wont make any difference because your more concerned about volume than convenience :)

I only have a zalman fanmate so it would be very inconvient having to take the side off my pc and screw the knob when i want to play a game then do the same again when im finished

You could just plug it into the motherboard, and then use something like Speedfan to adjust it (i think).

With my Fanmate i've wired it through the flopy drive bay

Aye the manual shows to put the fanmate wire through an empty PCI slot and on the outside of the case. :p I put it inside the case personally, on the drive mounting, but I just leave it on 100% anyways because it's so quiet.

I find the VF900 to be a fair bit noiseyer than my old VF700 I appreciate all the suggestions but all i want to do is connect the cooler to the cards header and let the rest take care of its self

Unless the XT-X has a 3 pin header, that wont work. EDIT: well if you connect + to + and - to - it may work, but at 18% fan speed ist gonna do FA cooling, then its 60% then 100%...

Why dont you do it manually  and I dont see how with two raptors in RAID 0 you find it noisey

Benjo that link doesnt work for me. My raptors are held with nice silicone washers in my antec P180 so i dont find them that noisey also my discs dont usually get thrashed in windows. Im starting to think my VF900 may be noisier than everyone elses

The ATi does have a 3 pin header. But, I'd think the third white wire on the ATi is a pulse modulation PWM for speed control. IIRC the Zalman changes speed by voltage control from the fanmate? So the Zalman third wire is the speed sensor.

The VF900 is noisy? I think you may have gotten a faulty fan with yours as I can't hear a thing from mine lol.

Yup mine is about the loudest thing in my case at full speed maybe i should contact zalman
