This is probably one of the dumbest questions I've asked, but here goes, I want to try a vga connection from me son's xbox 360 to me panasonic lcd tv, but there is no vga connector on the rear of the console that I can see (it might be hidden  ) so do I use an adapter utilising the scart connector on one end and a vga connector on the other. Soz for the lameness of this post, total chaos here atm, fatigue kicking in, etc.

Get the official one though, the 3rd party ones aren't as good on colour, apparently.

Scort.

That's a very sweeping statement. My £5 VGA cable from eBay gives an identical output to the official one.

I wish people would stop trying to defend the third party cables, they are not as good as the official cable, anyone saying they are is delusional.

It's an analogue signal, a crap cable will give a crap image, and I have not seen one third party cable that can match up to the official one.

So just buy the official one if you want to play it via VGA.

My 3rd party matches the official, I can make a comparison if needed.

I'm not saying all 3rd party are better just that only some are made correctly. Some are terrible so don't trust crappy brand ones.

A comparison would actually be really good for the 360 sticky imo, so people can easily go there and compare.

And I wish people would stop believing that a Microsoft hologram and a price tag 4 times higher must mean that a cable is of better quality...now THAT'S delusional! I work in electronics manufacturing and know the huge markups people like Microsoft put on their products. You're a victim of their marketing machine mate.

I've actually owned both cables. There was ZERO difference between the two. I sold the official cable for a tenner two days after buying it for £20..do you really think that I'd be willing to take that much of a loss if I thought I wasn't getting the same image quality from the unofficial cable?!

I'm not saying that *all* unofficial cables are on par by the way, but mine certainly is.

No, I'm just not so cheap that I'm willing to save £5/10/15 at the risk of having **** IQ, mate.

Since you're in 'electronics manufacturing', then I'm sure you understand a high quality cable is essential with an analogue signal to achieve the highest IQ, of which most third party cables aren't.

Maybe not to your eyes or on your TV/Monitor, that doesn't meant there isn't any difference.

I'm not saying that *all* unofficial cables are on par by the way, but mine certainly is.

Well good for you, I'm glad you're happy with your £5 eBay special, just don't start recommending third party cables to people for the sake of a few quid, since a vast majority of people with them end up disappointed.

Can you guys with both cables/a 3rd party one actually post the brands and possibly some images please.

Just saying '3rd party' leaves too many options open that might turn out to be **** cables, thats no good if someone then goes out and picks one at random that isn't the same as yours.

Well I'm glad you've got money to burn...please remember that not everyone wants to spend 10% of the cost of their console on a cable. It's got nothing to do with being cheap..I simply consider £20 to be too much for a cable which costs them around £2.50 to make.

Like you say, difference is quality is subjective. My cable has been tested on my 22" Belinea TFT and a mates 32" Samsung HDTV and we both agree there's no difference. Can I ask have you actually done any real-life comparision with cables or is everything you're saying based on here-say?

Oh and I'll recommend whatever cable I like thanks if I think it can save people a few quid, just like you'll keep on recommending the official one. We'll just have to beg to differ.

I'm afraid I've thrown away any packaging which came with mine. I don't remember it mentioning a manufacturer either..it came in imitation Microsoft packaging like this:

Joytechs third party cable is excellent, i have both that and the official and they're both brilliant.
You're lucky. Upon getting my launch day 360, I purchased the Joytech since there was a massive shortage of MS VGA cables. I used the joytech for about a year before people began saying the MS one was much superior. I bought a second hand MS one and was shocked to hell at how crisp the text was, compared to the Joytech which was a gold plated bugger too. That jotech now resides in my junk cupboard.
