Can I connect my Xbox 360 to live via my laptop and Internet Connection sharing? If so, how?

My uni requires a login whenever you want to connect to the net in the residences so it seems ICS is the only option and I'd like to get onto XBLM and get some updates.

Well, how do you connect to the net with your lappy.. it does seem plausible.

I use ICS with my USB broadband modem, but i imagine your connecting to your uni internet with some sort of ethernet cable to a NIC on your laptop.. now your gonna need two NIC ports so you cant connect your xbox to your lappy through the other.

Then, in your network connections, you should have your uni internet, and you need to enable ICS on that [properties of the connection, advanced i think] and then select the other LAN which is your xbox for the connection to share to.

Ok, so will I need a router/switch in order to connected both to the network and use ICS, since my laptop only has 1 ethernet port?

Your internet will either be going through a proxy server or a firewall (or both) there is no way to add proxy/firewall passwords to XBL connections so unless the XBL ports are left open you have no chance.

You could speak to your Unis network admin and see if (s)he can help you out.

Do not add a router to your lan. The DHCP settings could impact the network. This would get you in a lot of trouble. a switch might be ok. The reason they do not want swtiches and routers added to the network is that they probably want to ensure they have enough IP addreses to go round and to ensure that only so much traffic can go accross the network at any point in time. So adding components that will increase the network size can get you into trouble.

As I said speek to your network admin (s)he may help you out.

When I was at college the network was supposed to be "Game Free". I spoke to my network admin and it transpired that there was a network dive with games pre-installed. He granted me access to them for a "Gaming Club"
