Hi folks,
I'm looking for some guidance on an issue i currently have with my internet setup.
Firstly to give you an idea of whats going on:
I'm currently in the process of refurbishing my current house, to sell on to someone else at some point. I'm expecting this will take another 4-6 months, give or take, before i move out again.
There is an existing broadband line in the house that is being used by my in-laws whilst i have a second BT line (basically got it to avoid a £300 leaving fee) for myself and my wife at the other end of the house. Now the BT internet is great, it gets over 140mb/s downloads... at least, that's what the speed tests tell me...
Now my current setup has me sitting in a room, quite a distance away from the entry point of the BT socket. The engineer couldn't get it to where i wanted it so i had to pick somewhere less than ideal to place it...
So to get internet, I have had BT Powerline 600 adapters which up until now have worked, kinda. My speeds have always been slow with this method but iv'e managed to get some degree of connection, sometimes.
Anyway, along with my slow speeds (approx 2mb/s on a speedtest, in reality its around 100kb/s if i'm lucky!), i have now started to get disconnections, which appear to be the adapters dropping off randomly for some reason. Now, i have the TP link software on my desktop, so i can see the connection between the adapters runs at an average of around 80mb/s most of the time between the adapters.
So i'm at a crossroads: I can either work out how to fix my adapters, which i've googled endlessly to no avail, i can install a WiFi adapter on my PC, in the hopes that the 1 bar on my phone is enough for one to work, OR i can drill holes in some walls and run a 50m or so cable to the router directly.
Now the drilling is obviously the best solution, but it involves me ruining refurbish work that has already taken place, which i don't want to do, and more importantly, my wife doesn't want me to do!
So, would anyone have any sage words of wisdom in how i can rectify my issues with the powerline?
I have just bought a new PC setup for my wife as she will be working from home soon, which comes with a WiFi adapter so i can try that option out in the coming days, but wanted to see if i could save £50 odd before i do!
Thanks in advance!
