Hi all,

Can anyone recommend anything sinple and safe that will enable me to check my connection on an ad-hoc basis.

Main priority is for it to be safe, trojan free, spyware free, virus free etc.

I am not looking for continuous monitoring, logs or anything like that. I just want to be able to answer the question "What speed am I getting right now to this PC."

Thanks in advance to anyone with recommendations :)

Simplest way is to look at you connection usage in task manager. You can even get it to show upload and download.

I've never seen what you are referring to in task manager - There is only CPU and Memory/cacheing info under the performance tab. I am extremely familiar with this screen and use it a lot. Hope i haven't missed something.

Are you talking about a process?

I should mention here I am running Windows 2000 (fully patched and up to date). :D

When you are downloading something that uses all your bandwidth (i.e. iplayer) just check here. Say if you have a 100Mbit network connection and it peaks at 10% when you're downloading then you have a 10Mbits/s or 1.2Mbytes/s connection.
