connection problem?

Been getting connection problems all day. Both on xp and vista.
Somewhere between the computer and router.

So that's
Ethernet ports, Ethernet cable or router.

Is there any way to diagnose this as I don't have any other routers or Ethernet ports to try?

It appears to be the router, windows says a cable is unpluged. If I reset the router then it works fine for 2mins -1hr. Then the same thing happens and I have to reset the router again.

Is this a known problem (linksys router). Has it died, over heating etc?
