Connection problems in Windows 8

Hi all,

So my Christmas build is complete and everything is running smoothly...except for the wireless network.

I'm using a netgear router and a netgear wna3100m USB dongle to connect to it. I downloaded the latest drivers for windows 8 from netgear's website and it does connect to the internet. The connection is quite slow however and in games I am having some major issues with lag spikes. Connection has also been dropping consistently throughout the day.

Anyone have an idea what this could be due to? The internet works fine on my laptop and it worked fine on my old computer, which was running windows 7.

Do you think a good PCI wireless card would solve it?

Thanks

Have you checked the power settings for the wireless dongle? Not sure it'll help as your problem sounds a bit different, but make sure it's not set to switch off (in the Device Manager) and also that it's always running at full power (Windows Power Options)

It was set to turn off in the device manager, I've changed that but the connection is still slow.

I also had issues with Windows 8 connecting to my wireless network. Once connected it was fine usually, but it often took several attempts to actually connect which was really frustrating. My Windows 7 box in the same room, with the same wireless adaptor, had no such issues. I ended up running a cable into the room from the router, and using a switch.

Just to update, I purchased a TPLink TL-WN951N PCI wireless adapter as I suspected my Netgear USB dongle was the problem.

The PCI adapter is now installed and works perfectly.
