Hi, I've been trying to fix a friends computer, and now I've stripped out the malware, and a load of unnecessary programs, it's running at a decent speed.

The problem is, now I'm connecting it to the internet, it doesn't seem to be capable. I've got a cable, and a wifi adaptor, both working, and the hub is working fine as this pc is cabled, and the wifi works on other computers.
But everytime I try to connect with a cable, it says 'invalid ip address'. And if I try to connect with wifi, it runs the 'connecting' window for a minute then goes back to available networks 'Bthomehub2**** signal strength excellent' etc.

I've tried configuring the cable connection manually with a specific ip adress and using the hub control system on this pc to connect from both ends, but getting nowhere. the other pc is aware of the network, and tries to connect, but seems to be incompatible for some reason.

I've rebooted the hub, the pc, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, and run the wireless zero configuration program. I'm out of ideas, so could anyone please offer some advice?

Thanks

are you sure that the malware hasn't completely messed up the network....had a few pc's running xp where the only sure fix was a re-format and re-install but I can't remember the malware responsible...

I managed to get a connection when I reinstalled the wifi utility, it just started working without any problems. However when I turned it on the next day, it wouldnt connect again. I seem to have a conflict between the hardware utility and the windows configuration system. although windows is told not to control the wifi connection, the windows icon in the systray is showing 'status-acquiring network address' and wont connect, while the hardware utility is showing 'connected to bthomehub, signal strength excellent' but I havent got any internet connection, and the ip address for both is showing 0.0.0.0

I've switched off the wireless zero configuration in services, and I've stopped the utility and tried just using the windows connection, but neither is allowing me to connect.
