hiya, me and me g/f got aol platinum unlimited
the problems started around 2 weeks ago, we usally get around 750kb/s when downloading but it dropped to around 500kb/s , also during night and early hours say from 3am to 9am the connection dies every 30 mins and have to restart wow downloads etc..during the day we get the very rare d/c but still get only around 500kb/s downloads
we got 2x pc and a 360 on a wired speedtouch and has all been fine for ages

aol keep saying that it is our end and trying to get us to renew all the wiring etc

i may agree with them but how can it d/c like it does in light usage hours and every 30mins on the dot and be fine in normal sort of times?

is it our end or are aol telling us porkies

It could be both, or it could be anything.

First off, you need to try connecting your router to the master socket without any extensions (AOL should have suggested you do this already) to eliminate your extension wiring. You don't need a filter, but you will need a different cable with a BT plug at one end rather than RJ11 at both ends.
Secondly, you need to get sync rate, attenuation and SNR margin out of the router. All three should be in the web interface somewhere.
Thirdly, try the BT Speedtest (instructions in the sticky) - it'll give your IP profile if you're still on a BT Wholesale service.

ty for reply, done the bt test and was saying 5meg connection for area phone..
didnt have the cable for the modem so couldnt do that with the aol engineer on the other end
but 4 days ago all is fine was getting 720kbs downloads had no 30 minute dc`s etc

and all is still fine but g/f is fed up with the service and getting tiscalli
more hassle lol and gonna get slated as per usual

"area phone"? You did use the BT Speedtester (which has nothing to do with your area), rather than the Guesstimator (AKA "What might I get if I get ADSL from BT Wholesale?", and isn't a test at all)?

yep sorry lol did the guestimator thing..

all is fine now with the connection as i said so will it still be worth trying the proper speedtest

if we on aol the problems will start again in about 2 months time same sorta routine as we had again this time... but we changing to tiscali
