I know that I need a SCART to S-VIDEO with 3.5mm stereo jack, but the only one I've found so far is this :
http://www.profigold.co.uk/products/pgv670.html

However, it states in the description :
"Please note that this cable will only work properly in the one direction (PC into TV). It is not suitable for capturing external sources into your PC or Laptop."

This would then mean it would be unsuitable for pushing the picture from my STB to my HTPC ???
Any help/suggestions really appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like it, you can get ones with switches for in/out, not 100% sure but most sky boxes don't output an s-video signal anyway, composite is all they do via scart or rgb, some may do though so you will have to check.

Yeah sadly, you can get rgb but the cards are expensive, i think someone said there are boxes that do s-video but im not sure how you will know without trying first, some may have an independent s-video connection so check if you haven't already but when it comes to scart output it seems less likely, you may also be able to get rgb to s-video converters but i have no idea where to look.

So is it even worth it ?

I kinda wanted everything to run through the HTPC but if the picture's gonna be kak it prolly ain't worth it .... thoughts ?

The problem areas with composite are on text and some edges because it suffers from dot crawl, you can sort help this in post processing with a temporal comb filter but it isn't perfect, i would say its worth doing because you can still get the scart and cable pretty cheaply and its better than nothing, on moving images and from a distance you don't notice it too much but on a big display it won't look very sharp but then sd tv signals never will.
