Hi all,

So, I passed on a laptop to someone, and they are having trouble getting it connected up to the internet. The machine is running Vista, and it is successfully acquiring an IP address from the router. If try to ping the router (gateway), then it comes back as the destination not obtainable, and same goes for other servers. I am told that other machines are connected to the router and do not have issues, so it seems as though it is an IP stack issue on the laptop.

Any ideas for things to try?

Cheers

Did it previously have a static IP set?

Set everything to Auto.
Reset firewall settings to default.

Not sure what has happened. I rebuilt the laptop before I sent it to them, and it seemed to be working fine. It did sound like the IP settings had be changed from auto, as I got that changed, and it was getting an IP address from the router where as previously it was being reported as being in local mode only.

IPv4 Address 192.168.1.65
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.1.254

Its blooming odd. The device is clearly talking to the router as it is getting an IP address, but it can't ping the router. Must be firewall.
