Hey guys
Family home is having connectivity problems and I'm trying to troubleshoot over the phone.
They have talktalk and a basic Belkin (F5D8633 or similar) which replaced a dodgy Netgear DG834GT (we got TalkTalk back when they only supplied a USB modem). The Netgear worked fine until last summer when it started to play up and was replaced with the Belkin which has been faultless since.
In the last week or so, however, the internet connection has started to drop out. Sometimes the network icon (Win7) says there is no internet connectivity, other times everything seems fine on the computer but webpages don't load (including, interestingly, the router's LAN admin page at 192.168.0.1). In the latter case the router lights remain solid blue (OK), I've not been able to check the former.
Contacted TalkTalk and they said they could see some issues with dropped connections and claim they've fixed what they can at their end, so would have to send someone out: which carries a £50 callout charge if it turns out to be our router. Anyone know if this sounds like a router or an ISP problem, and what (if anything) I can try to do to fix it or just ensure it's not under our control?
I've tried another ADSL router, but the only ones available are the DG834GT which was previously dodgy (so wouldn't prove anything as it's dodgy in it's own right) and a DG834G which doesn't seem to want to connect at all - TalkTalk state on their site that the earlier DG834s aren't compatible.
