Can anyone recap the differnces between the connectors please?
I know what HDMI is, and VGA but what are the DVI? DVI-D? and others?
What is best and how do I know what I have or should look for on a new screen?

DVI is digital, as is HDMI. The difference is that HDMI carries audio, and is a different connector. They are electrically compatible.
There is also Displayport. This allows daisychaning of monitors.

A monitor with DVI input is good to aim for. HDMI is also good but the cabling connection can be tricky if you have a DVI only video card.
Check your video cable plug if it is plugged into a blue coloured port on your monitor it is probably VGA.
Usually monitors with DVI also have VGA so check if your monitor has both and which one your are using.

Although easiest way would have been to list your monitor make and model plus your graphics card details.

at the moment i have an 8800. But I am looking to change when I buy a monitor, so was wondering what the best setup to get would be.
