Conroe @ 1600*1200

funny that this conroe has bigger jump in fps than you would get buying a new gpu :)
Yeah, it just shows how some games are a lot more cpu-bound than we previously thought.

A 100% gain in FPS at 1600x1200 + max settings in F.E.A.R. is incredible. If a new gfx card gave that much of a boost, we'd all be on our knees, worshipping it ;).

I was really suprised by the max detail/high res scores as I always thought they were GPU limited at those levels; well thats what I was told by the "experts".

Take this:

FEAR:
1600x1200, 4xAA 16xAF, all max:
Opteron 165 @ 3GHz: Min 25 | Avg 43 | Max 172
Conroe @ 3GHz: Min 53 | Avg 86 | Max 310

Amazing! If these benchmarks are correct, then you can be certain theres still a lot of untapped power in that shiny new £300 card you just bought!

No, current graphics cards (especially in SLi/Crossfire like in these benchmarks) are seriously CPU limited in pretty much any game, just less in some games than in others.
