how is conroe at running 32bit apps under xp64? cos i know EM64 cant run 32bit natively like the Athlon 64.

EM64T, and Athlon 64, are almost exactly the same. Its IA-64 that cant do native 32bit. IA-64 is Intel's Itanium series, while EM64T was added to Pentium IV, and is the foundation of Core 2's design.

So the answer to your question is that Conroe is the fastest 32bit X86 compatible processor on the planet at this time, its 64bit abilities are pretty good to.

Clock for clock in 32bit Conroe is up to 40% faster than an Athlon64, in 64bit the the difference is much smaller, but on the whole Conroe is still ahead in most 64bit tests, but the AMD does put up a much stronger fight.

Overall Conroe is a fantastic 32bit chip, and a very good 64bit chip. AMD are 'very good' all round.
