Conroe Buying Guide - Motherboard performance reviewed

Nice to see the Bad Axe up there... not :( but hey I'm going to stick with it untill I see how the boards pan out :)

Hey, thanks for the linky, but gotta admit I don't understand much of what I'm reading :)

I ordered a E6600 Conroe and found the Intel DP965LT (775) PCI-E DDR2 (MB-011-IN) which seemingly meets all my requirements but based on my lack of knowledge concering hardware specs I'm hesitating slightly...how can two motherboards of seemingly identical specifications perform so drastically different? The architecture? The BIOS?

Reading that review it seems to be really pushing the reader to splash out on a P975 but I'm pretty sure a £150 motherboard for a home-user who doesn't exactly push his hardware to the limits is a bit OTT.

Would a semi-enthusiast such as myself find the current conroe motherboards available satisfying? (for example the mobo I've ordered)
My order hasn't been dispatched yet because my E6600 Conroe is in the same order so I do have time to change the motherboard if necessary.

If I dabble in overclocking it wont be excessively, never done it before so I don't want to run the risk of blowing up my new rig straight away :)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

We are all a little confused and dis-satisfied with the Conroe boards out there at the moment, but I'm looking towards nVidia's nforce 5 coming out and seeing what that baby can do!!!...

It's slightly confusing as to how they have set it up, and I'm not sure if I am reading the results correctly, but as far as I can see, all of the boards benchmarked there, apart from the ASrock one perform very close to each other.

I see, glad it's not just me then ;)

By "nVidia's nforce 5" do you mean the chipset the motherboard will carry?

I see, so really we're all waiting for user Conroe-mobo reviews from the X6800 guys around here :)

"All-in-all the ASUS P5W-DH Deluxe is one of the best Conroe boards we have tested."

That makes me quite glad im getting the P5W DH... Will be getting the new bios from Asus soon as well!

I'm happy with my Asus P5B from looking at those results. Who knows, maybe with some newer BIOS revisions and some new drivers it may improve more! :)

whats these nforce 5 boards i keep hearing about what can they do and what extra stuff do they offer?

They will offer SLi support for Conroe, and I also hope a lot more... I'm waiting to see how things pan out

Any chance we'll see an ATi chipset? They seem to be a lot more power-efficient which is going to be fairly important to me (parly 'green' partly because I'm a stingy sod :p) plus they're pretty good o/cers (not that you need it right now really but...).

That's a brilliant link, tells it all how it is nice and plain, should stop a lot of sweeping speculation.
Something im still curious about though, is it likely the 380FSB restricion on the DFI infinity will be sorted out with any BIOS updates? if not, I might change my order...

I've got the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 on its way, looking at the article it seems to be a decent board, they had a problem or two with pushing it past 376 fsb on the current BIOS but i'm sure that will be sorted.

Thanks for the link, a good article that!!

This is great!! thanks to the original op, am gonna take a while to read through this and absorb it all. :p

Should help make a decsion in getting a good board too. :)
