AM2 coming out early in the hope that amd will make some money but the conroe competition k8l wont be released until 2nd half of 2007 which apparently will run on the am2 socket so upgrades wont be too bad:

Expect conroe will be much better than it is expected by the k8l release. Amd are way too far behind with this but could create some better competition between the 2 companies and so keep the prices a bit lower

That would be an amazing leap, and could put the challenge back into this. Looks like 2007 will be a very interesting year in the CPU world...
 
Didn't think AMD were gona sit back and take this sitting down, they obviously have had something up their sleeves for a long while.

it says the first half of 07 for the k8l :)
i damn well hope so. a nice late christmas present for me if i go AM2 with my new rig. I would only go AM2 with upgrading in mind... what with Intel platforms having an average lifespan of about 4 months these days ;)
 
Even if it can compete against conroe its over 6months away so imagine what intel will have brought out by then in terms of new product line. Still its good to see that the am2 socket wont be a complete waste and most of us will probably end up using it. Think the big thing will be the first company to bring out quad core which im guessing cant be too far away
 
It will be out about 5-7 months after Conroe but Intel's road maps don't show anything that is gonna be a huge improvement until quad cores come out and then that probably wont be hugely noticable...... 07 is looking up for AMD again. Can't wait. Let's hope AM2 is a platform that lasts.
 
Interesting thing but we shall have to see some benchies to see if what they say is true. I also hope that AMD pulls this off because it shall put hopefully Conroe and this in tight competition and then the prices shall start to fall :D

Everyone says that when a new platform is about to be released. Think i'll stick on 939 until the k8l is out and had most of its bugs fixed

I'll agree with you there ted. As soon as everyone starts upgrading to AM2, i'll be picking up the cheap FX60's everyone will be dumping....

Then when the K8L's are sorted out and bug free i'll give it a go...
