why is the block on the conroe h/sink round when the core is square ther has got to be 10 % of the cpu not touchin the cpu .

are all conroe coolers like this even the scythe etc

The actual core of the CPU is a lot smaller than the heatspreader that's glued on over the top, so as long as the heatsink contact area covers that particular spot it makes very little difference to it's cooling ability. Saying that though, most coolers will cover a much bigger area than the stock cooler.
