Conroe cooling with no fan?

Guys,
I know Conroe chips are meant to run cooler than previous ones, but can you do it without a fan?

I'm looking at the Antec Solo case, a Gigabyte DS3 and then whatever Conroe chip I can afford along with a Scythe Ninja or similar. Would I have to use the 120mm fan with that?

I want silence - I think I have a low tolerance, as my current Zalman flower cooler, with the seperate fan taking up a PCI slot, is still quite audible to my ears even at the lowest setting.

Thanks for any advice or experience of this...

You can use the Scythe Ninja without a fan, but i wouldn't do it that with an overclocked cpu

neither would i, even with a fanless heatsink your still gonna need airflow into the case so a fan is gonna be needed to bring cool air in and at least bring hot air out

Food for thought..

Disappointing, but maybe I'll go with the Zalman CNPS9500 then - sounds like it's almost inaudible (time will tell!).

Thanks for the input guys.

i have the Zalman CNPS9500 running on my E6300 with AS5 Paste, 32C Idle, slient and loving it

You need to take a look at Silent PC Review if you're interested in slient computing.

A Ninja with a nexus fan undervolted using a fan controller to 7v is both silent and offers decent performance, probably better that the zalman.
