Just read this weeks Micro Mart ando found out that conroe isn't faster than the FX-60, it only beat it in a demo because the FX-60 didn't have the requireed BIOS update, to alow the FX support for the chip. Also during boot up the BIOS read "CPU unknown" so the FX-60 was rigged by Intel.

AMD are safe for the mean time.

i had that with an XP-m it didnt make any difference the cpu worked the same it just didnt recognise it as being an XP-m...

i dont know if this is the same but if it is, its just another flame intel article.

"FX Support"? The FX-60 is basically an X2 with an unlocked multiplier - therefore, if the board can work correctly with a Toledo core processor, it'll work correctly with the Toledo cored FX-60 - it just didn't know what the CPU was called.

As mentioned before, Anandtech re-ran the tests with the correct BIOS installed and it made no difference. Intel didn't rig anything.

Even if it wasn't working correctly, I don't see how that proves that Conroe isn't faster?

Makes no difference, my FX-60 is the same, as long as it recognises that it's a dual core there's no problem (which it was).

The Conroe core is going to be significantly faster than anything AMD can sell for a good while yet.

Wow, micromart.... There's a reliable source that I trust implicitly....

Wow, everyone says that about absolutely everywhere ;)

:p Why don't people stop speculating and wait until it is actually out.

This flared up ages ago. Anandtech reran the tests and the result was basically the same.

Quote for truth, also it was shown that Conroe was actually disadvantaged in the first review (timings were actually at 5-5-5-15 instead of 4-4-4-x iirc) and once that was sorted, it performed slightly better again. Congrats to Anandtech for re-running the test with the corrections though - shows that it's was (as much as it could be) an accurate estimiation of Conroe performance.

if it's in MicroMart, it'll be right.

Who wrote the article?

MicroMart only has 1 staff writer, the rest are freelance journalists (inlcuding me! ) and the Ed wouldn't print something that was false!

I think we should wait until conroe is actually buyable to the general public, then we can pitch AMD vs. Intel again and see who wins -- this time round!

yes but it is my judgement that says i believe anandtech (one of the best review sites on the net imo) over some guy that writes for a pc mag i that have never heard of before

micromart is well known, at least round here....however they have been just as off the mark as pcformat have in the past;)

its never wise to trust any publication.

Maybe he didn't print something that was false but he printed stuff that was the info at the time before the benchmarks were re-ran. From all ive seen amd setups will be calling conroe "daddy" untill amd have something other than a transition to ddr 2 and 1 more pin. (and i own both intel and amd setups so nein fanboy comments plz) :)

good point Gerard, an article can take a couple of week's to get published in the magazine, which is surprising, when it's a weekly publication.

I dread to think how "old" the monthly magazines articles are...
