Conroe motherboard question?

Hi

about to order a new conroe setup but i cant seem to figure what motherboard and gfx card or even conroe to get,

so far

E6700 or X6800 (thinking the extreme will be waisted as only intend to clock on air).

now what i need to know is which motheboard supports 7950gx2? seen people use hacked drivers for the intel bax axe, but would these same drivers work on ASUS motherboard as i prefer the asus to the intel.

also where can i get these drivers from, i cant seem to find anywehre to download them from? anyone here have them? :)

if i can get the asus to work with the GX2 i would rather just get that and a E6600, as conroes on air seem to get about 4000mhz anyway even the extreme edition too. Asus is good for 450mhz without mods which should give about 4000mhz with an E6600.

thanks :)

thank guys for the help, but

The 7950 will work in any motherboard that is PCI-E regardless of chipset. Although it has two gpu cores, it is not running sli.

is this really true? so does this mean that i dont need the hacked drivers anymore, so i can run the 7950 gx2 in the asus motherboard with no problems and that it will recognise both cores?

Hacked drivers for sli on Intel or ATI chipsets are available here:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums...ad.php?t=100227

his is old WHQL/FM driver without 7900/7600/7300 support, but with 7800/6600 it works perfect. It allows to use SLi on intel 955/975 chipsets.

it says the above in the link, it clearly mentions Without 7900/7600/7300 support???

Also, the E6600 is be great for air if you plan on overclocking as even with the 9x multi you'll have enough fsb to max it out

you are right there that is why i need a motherboard that does 450mhz at least. usually the norm is that the X6800 should overclock better than the standard chips but for some reason they do not seem to be, so the E6600 is a better choice, although would have preferred the 10x multi. There is too much of a price difference almost 2x.

thansk for the hlep Kesnel :)

Yep, it'll work no problem. :)

As you can see from the thread there was quite a bust up about the release of the 84.66 hacked drivers that support the 79xx series. They can still be had, just a little tricky to track down.

The E6600 will hit its benchable limit on air before the FSB tops out in most cases, unless you have a poor clocking board and then there is always vmch mod anyway. ;)

The stable limit, by which I mean Prime stable etc., I think will be reached within the fsb for sure.

Thanks kesnel, looks like its E6600 for me then,

out of the intel bad axe and asus which do you think is better, i heard that something about the cpu and mch or something like that share the same voltage on the asus? i am looking for something that does 450mhz without any voltage mods or anything fancy. Have read that the intel does not perform well on the 1333cpu strap but does on 1066 cpu strap, was wondering do you know what the max fsb is on 1066cpu strap on the intel board?
i don't understand why motherboard mmanufacturers just make good boards that dont have all these problems, they have so much time to get things right.

i value and need stability more.

thanks again :)
