Conroe not compatible with SLi/7950?

Not yet without drivers that have been modified. Wont belong before nf5 conroe boards are released though

I ask purely because I start uni soon and am looking for a major upgrade to last me my 4 years there.

The site im looking to buy it off as I dont have time to make it myself says the MOBO (either one i select, ASUS® P5WD2 PREMUIM or ASUS® P5W DH DELUXE) isnt compatible with the 7950 which is a real pain!

if your using a single 7950 it will work in multigpu mode.
so long as the motherboard gives it 16x pci-express bandwidth

if you use 2 x 7950 you wont be able to use them in quad-sli (ie both 7950s together) unless you have the hacked drivers.

ive been using a 7950 with the normal 91.33s
 
So, sorry let me get this straight.

You're saying theres no reason why the Geforce 7950 shouldn't work with a Conroe E6700 and the motherboards above, ASUS® P5WD2 PREMUIM or ASUS® P5W DH DELUXE ? It should all work fine?

If so I'll email these people and ask them to double check.

so long as the board gives 16x pci-express transfer, there will be no penalty.

if your running in 8x it will work but slower.

im certain the DH works fine as many on XS are using with a 7950
(board gives 16x link width) not sure about the Premium)

im getting the DH tomorrow myself.

a single 7950 runs in multigpu mode - not sli
 
Nvidia's supported list contains the Intel BadAxe board with the 975X chipset as long as you have an upto date bios. Im guessing most good boards that support Conroe will get bios updates to support the 7950 as well.

the bios just gives the transfer link to pure 16x / way

boards that already have that will / should work fine.
