Conroe now available from OcUK!

Hey guys quick question.

I have gone and pre-ordered myself E6600 the other day but need advice on a new mobo and RAM to go with it.

I have seen the Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard, also I see in the RAM forum that OCuk is getting in G.Skill F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ soon. Is this a good match for the CPU? I am not really into overclocking, just looking for a good, fast stable system.

Cheers.

You don't need PC6400 RAM, that's only needed for extreme overclocks. Get some PC5300.

Will this still let me have the CPU running at 2.40GHz, 1066FSB? Sorry been a long time since I have upgraded so I have been out of the 'loop' for a while. :D

The default for an E6600 is 9x266 = 2.4GHz. PC5300 RAM is stock on a 333MHz bus allowing an E6600 overclock to 9x333 = 3GHz (+25%).

Even after that there is a good chance that the PC5300 will work over it's 333MHz stock speed allowing CPU speeds over 3GHz (if the chip and motherboard will do it.

Two points - Core 2 duo doesn't seem to benefit from tight timings and it doesn't need high speed memory. I bet the manufactures of 'enthusiast' memory aren't happy with the way this has turned out.

Can anyone tell me if overclockers.uk take your money straight away? or do they wait until they are instock?

For the pre-order that is.

I dont really follow, if the cpu is so much faster how can it not need at least as fast ram as the last batch of cpus needed. I agree DDR2 has turned out much better for the consumer but I think faster speed (if not latency) ram can only help ?

I'd like to see a proper comparison between different ram speeds on conroe but Iam sure it helps if the chip is at 100% and heavily multi tasking or dealing with high amounts of data

Ok people... I'm going to go with Gskill I think... possibly... what do you think I should get? I'm going to do some serious overclocking with my Conroe Extreme Edition

Unless Gibbo is going to Stock Team's RAM? Are you looking into it Gibbo??

Stelly
