Conroe now available from OcUK!

Slighly off topic but would a 6300 beat a X2 4400+ 939 at stock?

And...

will a stock E6400 and/or E6600 outperform a Intel P4 Dual Core 940 3.2Ghz? :)

I think its only the base conroe that any present cpu has a chance of beating and thats only if its kept at stock.

Intel P4 Dual Core 940 3.2Ghz is slower then a 4ghz 805 since they basically the same chip

Over the next few weeks.

We shall also be stocking the entry level E4200 Conroe processor too which is an 800FSB part but should offer great value for money and be a great overclocker. :)

Any more info on this, I thought 6300 was entry level until I read this though 6400 seems a better bet if it has a higher multiplier

I have just noticed other retailers have now started taking pre-orders for Core 2 Duo and are considerably cheaper than OCUK

For example the E6600 is a massive £40 cheaper and the E6800 £60 cheaper

Are OCUK gonna be lowering their prices anytime soon? or I'll be forced to buy elsewhere..

Im sure that OcUK prices will go lower too :) the only reason they're higher atm is because OcUK were the first to provide preorders and also ensure that they would be getting a good allocation of chips first hand. That's why I think they were justified in putting prices high. No doubt they'll come down soon though!

You didn't expect anything different did you? Of couse the first company to start taking pre-orders (and taking the cash) would be the most expensive. I expect the E6600 to be a sub £200 inc part very soon after launch, I said Mon 4th Sept above but maybe even before the end of July.

glad i havent ordered my ccpu ram and motherboard yet. I have also found cheaper places, sorry ocuk but you need to drop the prices a bit.

Do most 939 heatsinks work with a Conroe?

I've an arctic freezer 64 on my A64 3200. On the ocuk site there's a pro version that apparently works on both sockest - is it any different to mine?

It doesnt AFAIK  The Freezer 7 is compatible with LGA775 though. Quite sure the Freezer 64/Pro isnt!

Something interesting I've noticed is that, at one of the competitors, when I added the E6600 to my basket and clicked "Buy Now"; A range of delivery options came up... think you'll find them interesting:

Thursday 20 July 2006 (Economy Service) £3.99 £4.69
Friday 14 July 2006 (Next Working Day Service) £4.99 £5.86
Friday 14 July 2006 (Pre-12 Next Working Day Service) £8.98 £10.55
Saturday 15 July 2006 (Saturday Service) £15.99 £18.79

No, im not on about the pricing :p. Notice that the "next working day service" shows July 14th . Make of that what you will :p

Other stores do not debit your account until the items are in stock for delivery either!!

My take on this is,any company can put a price on there web site,it boils down to who gets them first, people will always pay more to get it quicker,it may be 30-40 quid cheaper some where else, but that wont be a lot of good to people if they end up waiting weeks, for as we all know after a few weeks the prices will fall back a bit anyway.

I would say Monday 17th myself ( unless they count Saturday as a working day, which most companies dont hence the extra charge) :D

anyway looks like we have a week or maybe a little more to wait until you lot get yoru grubby (or not so grubby ) mitts on them lol
