Conroe out July 23rd!!!

Intel/AMD  Theyre all the same to me, just go with the quickest/best overclocking chip at that time, along with the relevant components.

Looking forward to a speedy rig though.

Exactly. I'm out there for myself, not for the loyalty of one company over another. Whatever company produces the 'goods' will get my custom. I own both Intel and AMD processors, and it looks like I'm adding another Intel cpu to my collection this year.

I'v never had an intel CPU. Looking forward to it tbh :D

ive never understood how folk can limit themselves to only one manufacturer/brand. ive had Intel/AMD/ATI/Nvidia, it's all good to me. :D

Sorry, how many?

As with many I'm looking forward to the Conroe release.
In answer to a question above - I know which manufacturers I like and I stick to them.
I only buy in Intel based systems for work - both servers and workstations.
At home I've only ever used Intel since I moved to my P90.
Before that my 486/386 systems were usually Intel although I do seem to remember owning an AMD DX2-66

The reason I stick to Intel processors on an Intel chipset is because to be blunt - they just work, always, without fuss, without hassle - they just work!
I'm sure many an AMD person will tell me about having no problems etc.
That's fine, but I read of far too many people having just the smallest issue whereas my Intel systems over the years have always worked first time every time and have performed just fine for me.
And I owned an Original P4 based system for a while.

YAY! Release is during my jury service and just before my graduation. Hopefully with a good degree i can justify this purchase :D

What are DDR2 and MB's prices like for the conroe though? Do you think i could do an upgrade for £900 (well 1.2k including 19" LCD monitor) or would that be asking too much?

Allow £100 for the mobo, and £100 per Gb of ram (DDR2 is approx £50~£150 per Gb, depending on speed). For a 2Gb setup, that would leave £600 for the cpu, assuming you don't need a new psu or gfx card. That should be more than enough for an E6600 2.4Ghz conroe (US$316), or even an E6700 ($530).

I think the E6600 2.4Ghz will be the most popular choice, especially if it clocks anything like the Northwood 2.4c did. I just hope they can keep up with demand, as it looks like the whole world wants this chip.

Again, we just need prices on DDR2 and Intel mobo's to fall...:(

DDR2 prices are fairly good, unless you go for the absolute latest 8000.

I just brought 2 lots of 2GB C4 6400 that should be perfectly good enough for all but the most extreme clocking and they cost me £165 per 2GB (2 x 1GB)... now thats much the same as DDR 1.

The 8000 or C3 6400 are stupid atm, but not really needed.

Also Intel chipsets are normally much better when it comes to dividers than AMD... well they were last time i tried :)

Maltby... looks like we're gonna have the same RAM ;)

I have some Gskill 6400 4,4,4-12 and some Ocz 6400 4,5,4-15 comming
And i have a nice little Yohna 2600 and the Aopen board ready to go as soon as it arrives (hopefully tomorrow)

I'm all set for Conroe or Memron (depending if a change on Mobo is called for, the Aopen works with memron apparently :))
The AMD Skt939 is 90% sold and on its way.... goodby AMD lol

LOL, unfortunately that amount includes GFX and a case/PSU :(

Going to have to see how it pans out, otherwise im going to go 939
