Conroe out July 23rd!!!

I just hope I can get E6600 + X1900xt + "Insert good OCing Mobo" + Antec 180 + Antec Phantom 500W + 2GB "Insert Good DDR2 to go along with OCing" + Zalman Flower + Zalman 900 for under £1400...

Think the DDR2 is actually gonna cost more than the CPU? 'cos that'll just be too much.

You and me both.

As Intel are now holding back the 3.33Ghz EE + 1333FSB think no point in getting anything higher than an E6700 as the price differential is just not worth the extra performance when the cheaper CPUs will still be mighty quick.

As for ram that is cheap anyway because even value select DDR2-533 is fine for a 10-15% overclock and that is as cheap as DDR1 now.

The more exotic + expensive ram is only really of much use for extreme FSB overclocks.

Guess we will see some Conroe mobos in the next 2 weeks or so. Intel are being a little crafty here as they are only offering 1 (in reality) new chipset for Conroe & updating the 975X mobo power spec to avoid losing 975 chipset sales. Your only choices are: Q965, I975X Rev2 or Q963 which is a cheaper 965 minus 2 Intel business orientated techs for storage management & security.

I would suggest anyone with a current I955x or 975X dual core mobo wait until the launch to see if Conroe can work on yours as it currently is because you would only lose the ability for Conroe to use less power if you do not have the rev2 board.

hmm the e6600 sure does look good....

and i didnt get all the socket F stuff in that news piece, should we be interested in it?

And P965 afaik?

And of course nForce5 IE, ATI RD600 and probably some Via etc. chipsets. Although with an Intel chipset rocking the block I sure as hell won't be touching any of that garbage :p

Are Intel chipsets generally better than those?

Gossip has it that RD600 will be the new hot chipset come August. i975x is a solid chipset though, I may get one to hold on until Conroe/RD600 arrives.

Mine will be 2.8ghz 144, 2gig pc4000 and dfi ultra on the release day of conroe I suspect.

Probably wont even get £200 for the lot though due to the relative lack of flexibility in the people who use the MM. :p

What you do is sell it on auction site. By the time you actually have to ship the parts a week can easily have passed.

First bench with Yonah 2600 came out with 23.7 seconds superPi 1M.. thats running at 200FSB.... or 2.5Ghz - stock everything and on air.

Will post back with some screen shots soon.... That beats my FX60 already and i have not tried yet.
