Conroe out July 23rd!!!

this is all very well and good folks,

but does anyone have any idea of the cost of these processors? £300-£400 ? how much ?

975 mainboards on ocuk are around 160+ already, expensive ! ill take a good clocking opteron dual core (2.9ghz if poss) please when everyone is selling :p

July's sounding like a good month to me !

start my new graduate job at the beginning and should get paid at the end of the month... guess what that pay check is going to go on :D

I won't be selling my rig for some time.
Not for a few seconds quicker super PI time.

I mean what will you guys be using this processor for?

My 2.8ghz opty 170 is way fast enough for what I do game, editing ,encoding etc...

I don't think I will see much real worls performance getting a conroe in everyday pc usage.

Perhaps not everybody has such a well overclocked CPU as yourself? The Core 2 Duo mid - high range will have a 'real world' performance gain of 20-40% on your existing CPU, even at such a high clock speed.

20 % is nothing not to warrant a complete overhaul.

The Conroe may just make me take the move back to Intel since my last flirtation with them. That was a 486DX2 66 :P

Well if you dont overclock a conroe then you may as well keep what you have. If you are overclocking then you will see upto 60% improvement in cpu limited cases in games. A 3.3ghz conroe is just  even compared to a 2.8ghz X2.

And anyone on a single core setup will be blown away with conroes performance in games that support it properly.

The E6600 will definitely be the best selling conroe. Why pay an extra $230 (75%) for the E6700, which is only 270Mhz (11%) faster?

I hope the pricing translates ok, $316 is a good price for an E6600 :D

Best thing to do is to let the dust settle when the Conroe comes out. Wait to see how people view it in relation to AMD and then act accordingly.

I will be watching the Conroe closely.

Absolutely! I won't get a conroe or mobo until I've seen the first wave of reviews, and the prices settle. There'll be a choice of mobos and chipsets by then, and I want to get a good solid board for clocking my conroe :).

Agreed if someone is on a single core chip then it might be a wise move getting one.

For me I know if I buy one (which I probably will in time ) I will see very little in everyday use over my current setup.

60% increase in games?
All my games runs fine can't see a conroe making them any better than they already are TBH.

Shaving a few seconds off an encoding time does not turn me on that much.
If it could do it in half the time then maybe but in reality it won't.

So for me to upgrade a whole new system to have a conroe I would either have to be very rich or very sad.

And I'm neither so I will wait till the hype settles.

It's not all about the performance, for me (as I will get one) it's about getting your hands on the latest tech and OCing it :D

I love to tweak myself but having had intel systems in the past I will get more fun i think getting my opty dual to 3ghz than I will spending loads of money playing with a s775 intel.

Your posts in this thread just give me the jist that you're trying to justify your recent spend on the high end rig you've just bought.

Conroe will wipe the floor with any current offerings by either themselfs or AMD, if you've not already got a computer, or if perhaps you've got one that you're not entirely happy with performance wise.. Conroe is the way to go.

That's not to say there's anything wrong with your current rig, far from it - just Intel will bring high end performance to the mainstream market.
