A-0 = stepping 1
A-1 = Stepping 2
A-2 = stepping 3
B-0 = stepping 4
B-1 = stepping 5
B-2 = stepping 6

Thats the lot, every stepping Intel have made for Conore to this very day.

I have been told they got a newer stepping B3 stepping 7 if there are issues within the 1st 30 days of realses they will make a newer chip and do a RMA hot swap on them.

Retail is now the B2 Stepping 6, this was changed a few weeks ago and prior to that it was B1 stepping 5.

B2 stepping 6 wil lnot OC that far at all what so ever. Been chatitng to someone that has an X6800 B2 Stepping 6 retail and they can only get a max clock of 3.466ghz at 1.35v, anyhting more Windows boots but then crashes and is needing high volts to do anyhting.

So it's all up in the air a bit and what not!

B0 stepping 4 is the daddy but is ES only. I'm now in two minds of keeping or selling mine

B1 stepping 5 will oc a tiny little it more but getting it stable is one thing.

So with it only just round tut corner what you going to do.

Will your pre order be a B1 stepping 5 or the all of a suden B2 stepping 6?

^ Oh that the magic b0 stepping 4 Cornroe E6700ES which is mine

You could always make my day and take my Stepping 4 B0 and run at 4Ghz air cooled and have a 12 second super pi time and not need to upgrade for ages!!!

I though i best not keep you all in the dark

I think everyone is overreacting. There are been so few results posted with the retails chips, all on poor aircooling too.

So far we've seen 3.4Ghz-3.5Ghz with around 1.35v.

B1 spanks B0 and the fact that B2 is so closely based on B1 with apparenlty only 'one minor change', I'm not too worried.

So a Tuinq Tower or Syth Ninja are poo air coolers? Not what i seen, heared, read and oh used!! AS5 too is used.

B2 is a silly little chnage that is barly noticable on the film...got it somewhere. b2 is a massive decrease in the oc to b1 or B0.

B0 is amazing ta, 85% of all Conroes have been B0 and have set the benches there....like to see them be beaten.

B1 will oc but 40/50 MHZ more is what i have seen

You talk so much rubbish its unreal.

Omg you've read about ONE person who owns an X6800 who can't get it above 3.466Ghz (apparently, and it could be any number of reasons why) and suddenly Intels latest stepping CPU is crap? At least wait until they're in the public domain en masse before you dismiss it out of hand.

Theres no logical reason whatsoever that Intel would suddenly change wafers or process (because this is the only practical reason an FSB overclock would be so consistently diminished), especially so late in the day. That's the whole point of the ES phase - to iron out bugs, improve the yield and performance, etc... not to take a step backards.

You're worse than The Inquirer - get a little bit of info and suddenly you think you're an authority on everything. Shouldn't you be speaking to your mysterious Intel contact?????

I wouldn't worry Stelly - I'm sure your X6800 will be just as good as the previous steppings with the right memory, mobo and BIOS combo.

(This is the same bloke who offered about 10+ Conroes on XS forum a good month ago, and claimed an unlimited supply, and when pushed suddenly clammed up and acted surprised and frustrated when - God forbid - people actually asked about buying them!? You've got serious delusions of grandeur and self-confidence issues Drazic. :()

Hahah prove it?? Come on, public prove it. Oh wait you can't so shut up

Right i have seen over 90 retail Cornoes that are not clocking that far what so ever. I helped this dude out last night and it's not the only one i have seen. Latter next week i'll have a white box one to test the stepping of proving customs leave it alone.

Yeah well dispite what you've said they have chnaged it form b1 stepping 5 to b2 stepping 6.....kinda tell you something don't it. All the white box Conroes i seen and have sold on have been B1 stepping 5.

Erm i have spoken to my Intel Contact thnaks, she has a name too. She is also views this site so if you dfon;t want your ears burning i surgest strongly you shut up and give her some respect.

Memory is picky on the newer Intel stuff. Just look about and you'll loads of issues.

I'm, sorry what? I said i had a few Conroes possibly for sale. Had to get permision and told what to do with them being left over. When you have someone as perfectic as your self sending a pm an hour you think i want to deal with you...hell bloody no. Oh it was way over a monthy ago too. I sold them all, directly 10 i had and all went for £485 each. Your ***** as you didn;t get one, i ignored your pm's, blocked you on msn possibly. family, work, living comes way befor any of this pc crap and pc geaks

Oh and you can try and own me but good luck. have you a conroe...hell no

Don't swear. FF

In case anyone is interested, do a search on the XS forums for this bloke (username "Pete").. it makes for interesting reading :D

Suffice to say the phrase "take with a pinch of salt" applies to practically everything he says that's related to this sort of stuff. As I said, delusions of grandeur.

Steady boys. This is a good thread and asks some interesting questions which i would like to see some opinions on.

Please dont trash it and get it removed by the Dons.

If people can post thier finding as, and when, retail chips start arriving we can try and work out if there is any truth :)

The only result I've seen on the retail X6800 is here.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1574331&postcount=265

That was done on stock aircooling.

As for step 4 vs. step 5, the latter is getting around 300-500mhz more than the stepping 4 chips. As an example take a look at boardy's result with your B0 chip, he managed 4.2Ghz on phase. We can see B1 chips (E6700 and X6800) hitting 4.5Ghz-4.6Ghz on single stage as the norm.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=106309

Even if we look at air cooling results. Your B0 got 3.7Ghz, we've results from B1 getting 4Ghz with increased volts and 3.8Ghz with stock vcore.

I'm not trying to be purposely contradictory, I'm just sharing what I've observed.

Durzel go be sour eles where please.

If everyone here is so hocked up on Conroe then they will know about ES etc etc. Then stepping will be very self explantry.

Has this info been posted here yet before me...no so i let you know

Fact is it's been seen by many that b2 stepping 6 is not a good oc but thing may well change.

And to keep you horid lot happy i posted a pic of my Conroe. it;s lapped a sif the product codes got out i get in the shizle as it's an ES

Bord had a problem with my Intel bord, on other proper bord as the bad axe is odd as hell it clocks tons more as nearly all steppiung 4's where on bad axe as to asus and dfi etc

This is why I'm never an early adopter.

I prefer to let others be the Guinea Pigs, and buy when there's more real world knowledge of the product.

These have been the results that have been borne out by pretty much everyone that has genuinely had ES chips (i.e. not pictures they've found on other peoples threads passed off as their own - hint hint). B1 > B0.

As far as the retail stepping goes - the jury is out on that until sufficient people (i.e. more than one  ) have them in their hands, with their various motherboards and memory combos etc. I seriously doubt Intel would shoot themselves in the foot, but then I'm not an idiot looking for attention.

I don't have an axe to grind either way with this, I don't really care whether this chip succeeds or fails - I don't have any shares in Intel. :) That said, I do have a fundamental problem with people spreading misinformation like this, especially when said people have a reputation that precedes them for.... putting it bluntly.... talking utter bulls-poo.

I'm probably treading a thin line with the Dons here but to be honest I've said what needed to be said... anyone who takes what the OP has said at face value is in serious danger of believing in false information. Until you hear this info from an authoritative source, someone who actually has got contacts in Intel and has got ES chip(s) instead of pictures of other peoples... don't believe a word of it.

...and pre-order from OCUK! :p

What and miss out on all the fun :)

the trouble is that extreme PC overclocking is always hit and miss... look at Opteron... the best steppings were not the first nor the current but a small batch in the middle. Unless you buy second hand, paying over the odds, for a proven clocker... you take your chances with any new CPU you buy.

Thats the fun of it - will i get a massive overclock from my £150 CPU and compete with people that spent £400??? Thats what we all aspire to, best performance for least cost, but its 75% luck and 25% research to cut the odds.

How can imake this clear

BORDY HAS MY CPU INTEL CONROE E6700 ES AND INTEL BAD AXE REV 304 MOBO TO DO SOME BENCHING ON IT

Thicky loading it up with some LN2 goodness

Admiring the coldstuff

Anyone can have an ES chip mate, anyone. I get them cheap if not free and get to test them.

You now getitng the picture. Someone else had my rig to bench with to beat every score in the UK.

Get dons in if you want. Gibbo deal with a very good gropu of people at Intel uk as it goes as we've spoken lots about it as he wanted to sort bad axe mobos out with em. if you asked him nicly i;m sure you'd be able to get him to call up intel and get a stepping list of Conroe ES - retail

I posted up exactly what i got off the net and off my Intel contact

Like I said (to everyone else), do your research about this guy and make your own mind up.

I'm not gonna bother deconstructing every sentence this guy writes, and I could believe me, because it would only clog an already pointless thread.

Listen to the people that actually have a clue - i.e. the likes of SimonMaltby, easyrider, Devious, etc on here that actually have them, as well as all the people on the XS forums who were first to break various SuperPI records, etc.....

Nuff said :)

I'm inclined to agree with you mate
