only had it up and running a few days and tonight, clunk, it reset itself and never came back to life. Everything powers up, it just won't post.

I've tested the memory and gpu's in my older amd rig and they're fine, so its either the dfi 975x or the x6800 that's died. I've tried clearing CMOS several times but no luck at all on this.

Any suggestions would be welcome, though i'm inclined to think the motherboard has had it.

Is there no way of testing the graphics card?

he's done that already and they're fine.

one way is to get cheap celeron cpu (£30 in here) to test, that way for sure you'll find out which has gone dead

A cheap celeron would be a good idea, also it may come in handy in the future with situations like this.

it is AM2 so was able to test the memory. Old probably isn't the best word for that, but its just a cheap 3200+ at the moment.

there are no beeps at all, infact this is what i was going to ask next, should i hear beeps if the board is fine but the cpu isn't? No LED indicator unfortunately.

Looks like i'll def be getting a cheap celeron on monday, but its the time lag on an RMA that bothers me, i really need this rig back up :(

could be PSU - DFI boards draw a lot of current, and if the 5v rail is a bit weak they wont boot properly.. at least thats what happened to mine :S

thanks dude, for sure something is dead here, gonna order the celeron tomorrow and to be honest, i hope its the board that's gone.

cant you try RMA'ing the board as you only had it a few days? especially if it just died......

What happened prior to you realising soemthing had died? Did you make any changes etc?

I will once i know for sure its the board, it could still be the CPU. Oh i don't know, maybe i should call OCUK on monday and just RMA, i'm pretty sure its the board anyway.

I had 1.4v on the CPU, temps were 35 idle, 50ish load.
memory was at 2.0v
everything else was stock.

the whole system was rock solid for two days, not one glitch, then i tried my memory at cas3, which was unstable at 400MHz, so upped the volts to 2.0 and as it got into windows it reset itself and didn't come back to life. I've tried resetting cmos several times, i even left it cleared with the battery out overnight with psu disconnected, fired up this morning and no post. This was the only weekend for a long time that i could have played with the system, boo hoo hoo.

If you upped the volts to 2.0 and it didnt like it, im pretty sure that could have killed it dead? So i think your right in saying that the mobo is the dead part.

Always annoying i find, get it all built up and then you have to take it all to bits to RMA it! So annoying :(

Might be a silly question but if you blew it up by OC'ing it, is the board still returnable?

could try BUT if they know that you have OC'd it then they might say no to you...

It's not the board that's overclocked though it's the RAM.
The board has an option for 2.0v and if it causes the board to break then it's a fault with the board. At least that's how I see it :)
If it melted a RAM then that would be the users fault, but it doesn't sound like that's what's happened.
