I want to order this tomorrow, but just wanted to make sure it was ok before I went ahead with it!

I was worried the Seasonic-S12 PSU's 24-pin power cable wouldn't reach using the Gigabyte DS3 when installed in an Antec P180 - anyone know if it will reach without any problems??

Thanks in advance.

Nice spec mate, similar to my bits sitting around my room. But if you intend to overclock (which with an E6300 you should) get the Asus P5B-D mobo, as it's the best clocker out there. With the latest 0507 BIOS you should be able to get 500fsb, which mem permitting would mean 500x7=3.5ghz.

I'm not sure if a 600W seasonic would be overkill, but for overclocking it's a great choice. I have a tagan easycon 580W on the way and hope it is stable enough compared to an expensive and sexy seasonic.

Thanks for the info guys... appreciate it :)

Yeh the Asus P5B-D mobo was on my shortlist.. I think I may well opt for that one actually, even if it does cost quite a bit more.

With regard to the hard disk, any reason for going for that particular seagate over the hitachi?

Well i got my P5B-D for £134, which is good when compared to the overpriced and worse clocking P5W. I have never used a hitachi drive myself, and am very happy with my samsung. Sooo quiet, but seagate or WD drives are good too.

thanks adfinni... i'll get the P5B-D then :)

what about the PSU then? I saw the Seasonic S12-600w has had some great reviews. Surely the 700w PSU's that grs_link recommended are a bit OTT ?

the seasonic 600W is a beast of a PSU, and are very very highly recommended. 700W is over the top, and your PC will probably put out about 450-500W at an absolute maximum, so a 600W PSU with an 80% efficiency will do the job just fine.

Im sure there are people running X1900xt's and conroes out there there on good old skool 450W PSU's.

O b.t.w the board come with some fan thhing, about 6 SATA cables, power cables, pci expansion ports, and could probably make breakfast for you too :D

Hahaha im used to it now. Managed to persuade a couple of mates i play css with to get conroe rigs, with P5B's, and 1900xt's :D :D Or maybe i should go and work for the purple shirt brigade ;)

Now lets hope my advice was good, as i can't set mine up until my HIS cards get here. Cheers to ocuk, here soon enough.

If you want to read up about them just look over at xtremesystems. SOme guys volt modded their boards to get high fsb, but the new bios seems to eliminate the need and risk of those :D

E6300 + P5B > E6600 :p

hi probedb,

I did consider the P5B D until I read a review in Custom PC mag which said it was a poor clocker in comparison to the P5B and "unless you're dead on crossfire, the slightly cheaper P5B Deluxe is a much better buy".....

I'm still umming and arring over this as I don't know whether I want to go Crossfire in the future or not....guess I could just upgrade the mobo if I want :)

Good luck on the build! I can buy at the end of Sept when I get my bonus.

aye.. know what you mean mate.

Especially with DX10 cards coming out soon(ish) - makes you wonder whether it's worth buying a gfx card now :) Still, no matter what I think the x1900xt which I'm getting is a great buy for the money and a good single slot solution for the time being. This time next year I'll get a top of the range DX10 card anyway and i'll avoid CrossFire / SLi if I can :D

forget the first dx10 cards. You won't see dx10 features in games for a long time, probs at least 6months, more like a year. X1900XT will eat anything for a long time yet :D
