Conroe Spec... Any point (pre)ordering an E6600?

So I'm thinking of ordering this system any day now to pair with an X1900XT-X, two hard drives and a dvd writer:-

Gigabyte DS4 Mobo - £129
Lian Li PC7+ Case + CD-Rom Bezel + Window - £89
2GB G.Skill HZ PC6400 Ram - £174
Scythe Ninja Fan - £32
Akasa Amber: 120mm + 80mm Case Fans - £15
Creative Xi-Fi OEM - £57
Seasonic S12 600W Silent ATX2.0 PSU - £99
Some LEDs - ??

...but I'm wondering whether to hold off for a Conroe E6600, or just pick up an E6300 and o/c the hell out of it. I'd appreciate the extra L2 cache on the latter for sure, but the insane overclocks on the E6300 look like they could make up for the missing cache.

Gibbo, as I haven't pre-ordered an E6600 yet, where would I be in the "queue" if I did so now? I can wait a couple of weeks max until I need a CPU, so am hoping not to have to wait any longer than that.

Cheers

EDIT: could purchase a dead cheap Celly to tide me over, but would really like to know the sort of time/size of pre-order queue I'm looking at! :p

One more thing, is that PSU the best I can get for that money? Also, is it overkill? Am thinking of future-proofing myself against more power hungry setups in the future, but I can't ever see myself going down the SLI route (7950 and equivalents maybe, but couldn't justify the cost of 2 superfast graphics cards).

That's good to hear, coming from a E6600 owner.

I take it you sourced one early? It's just this extra L2 cache on the 6600 that's biting at me and causing me to wait right now. Plus, like I said, I don't NEED to build it for a week or two yet (that's when my system buyer is coming to pick it up).

Will be upgrading from what I used to consider to be a decent AMD X2 4400+, so want to make absolutely sure before I jump boat. Will also be abandoning my Shuttle for this upgrade :( (the new Conroe supporting shuttle is a bit naff imo)

Interesting...

Reading the relevant thread in the motherboard section of the OCUK site, it would appear that the HZ variant of the G.Skill ram WILL run at CL3, which is what the Gigabyte bios appears to be forcing memory to run at. So hopefully the HZ stuff should be ok, whereas other ram may not be so lucky.

When do you receive your memory/cpu/ram btw?

I'll give the boards over at XS a look over.

Have you pre-ordered an E6600?

Also, Trojan698: I've just noticed you're running some G.Skill HZ ram along with your DS3 board... Any issues with that at all? What version is the HZ ram?

What's the Antec like?

Remember that ~£30 of that extra money is just going on a window and new bezel for the dvd writer. The Lian-Li is made from aluminium, so it's meant to be light for a midi-tower (weight's definitely a factor for shifting my PC to LAN games or to the TV downstairs).

Also, what's the quality of the 480W PSU in the Antec?
