I haven't kept up with the CPU world for a while now, but may be looking to upgrade within the next few months. I currently have a P4 Northwood running at 3.0GHz. How much faster will an entry level Conroe system be? Can anybody point me to some comparison charts or anything?

Thanks :)

Depending on system setup the Northwood is clock for clock faster, in general, than the Prescott. A good indication would probably be the Allendale 6400 vs Prescott 530.

Look at it like this. In a decent set up, an E6300 is definitely able to do 3GHz stabl on stock volts.

So compare the 3.0GHz C2D to the 3.0GHz PIV. What wins?

A 2.4ghz conroe will easily beat the AMD top of the line FX-62. Even with the high L2 cache of the conroe, an E6300/E6400 (allendale) @ 2.6Ghz will walk all over the FX-62 !!!!
