Am getting 12 secs from when XP loads to the desktop appearing & its useable. This is only on a SATA2 7200.10 (seagate perpendicular) with 2GB Ram.

What is everyone else getting?

Never really timed it as such but I normally get about 8 bars going accross on the windows splash screen and it loads.

Mines about 30 - I think I need to update the bios as this is where I lose out still on 7001 or something like that - I am using a recent 75GB Raptor too

It takes me 45 seconds from powering on to using windows, which is exactly what it took on my 2600XP, so either the sata hard drive is the limitation or theres only so fast windows can load.

Edit: The drive is a 160gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 Sata 150

im sure this is more dependant upon hard drive setup, right?

my quad 80 gig 7.2k setup does 3 bars and takes 6 seconds till no hourglass on an x2 with 2gb ram

i doubt that would be any faster with a conroe tbh.

Its impossible to compare boot times as every system will have its own set of drivers and services to start while loading xp therby boot times will vary wildly. Fragmentation of files, hard disk setup and cpu/memory speed will also contribute one way or another to the loading time aswell.

it depends on drivers, and the drive itself. cpu plays little part in it. my ati s939 doesnt need moterboard drivers - it boots with one pass of the loading bar. that's not the norm however.
