Have 200 quid's worth of amazon vouchers drop in my lap so considering a CPU upgrade (with cash thrown in) but keep existing memory, mobo etc.

What do people think, is it worth it? And what should I get?

Asus Z170-E 1151 socket
Intel i5-6400 (non-K) @ 4.4Ghz
Kingston Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black
Alpenfohn - Brocken 2
NZXT S340
2 x Samsung 840 Evo 250GB
EVGA 1070 FTW
EVGA 650W G2

Its not worth spending £200+ on a 4 core 8 thread CPU, you would be better selling you current CPU + MB and going with something more current.

I didn't think that you should upgrade. Everything seems fine and well balanced. I don't think that you will notice any improvement in performance.

Perhaps in the future get a 4th gen ryzen with faster RAM etc. and even a new GPU - perhaps you could sell your existing stuff then.

In the mean time - what about a curved 1440 144hz monitor (say 27 or 32")? or a hyperx cloud II headset?

Yeah, but as I say, I'm happy to chuck money on top of the 200 quid (and then sell current after the event)
I recently bough a ryzen 3600 for the wife and was so impressed with it that I then bought one for myself (along with 3200-3600 MHz low latency RAM).

Cheers mate, I had an incling that was the case.

Recently bought a Zowie 2430 I think it is, so I'm pretty good allround!

Sounds like a new hoover is coming then! :)

Are you CPU limited while playing? I've not played PUBG so I don't know what it's like for CPU usage.

No not really. Low settings etc. 1080p. But the second something else is running on the PC be that a browser or even Discord, we start plummeting in terms of FPS.

Put it another way, I'd have no chance of ever streaming me playing PUBG from this PC. Not saying I want to, but the option would be nice :)

Right, sounds like upgrade time then. MB and CPU should be enough, don't think you need to upgrade RAM at this point. Assuming you don't plan on overclocking, i5 10400f and B460 should be about £250-ish. And should you decide to upgrade the GPU, stock permitting, this should work fine with anything up to a 3070.

It is 6 years old now I think.

Lovely stuff, thank you.
