Considering a Megane R26R

There's more to a car then just 0-60 times, the Focus is dull as a dishwasher compared to the r26.

He's not buying it to race around tracks. The ST has better interior, better engine, the 5 pot sounds a lot better than the 4 pot in the r26 and the upgrade potential is greater. The only thing the r26 does better is handling imo and that won't make much of a difference if he's only buying it for road use.

I have the R26 F1, its great fun to drive and the handling is sublime. The limited split differential helps with it being FWD, which I don't think the standard R26 has. I was seriously tempted by the R26R, especially after reading about its record at the Nurburg ring. But the loss of sound deadening with things like a flexible plastic rear window put me off a bit. Great for the track and short blasts on the road, but probably not so good for every day driving, especially on longer trips where its nice to just chill with some music.

The only thing with the R26 is that it doesn't feel that fast in a straight line (but I have a bike too, so that probably doesn't help much), the power delivery on-boost is fairly linear. I think the book for it is 0-60 in 6.5 ish. 1st, 2nd and 3rd are decent, but 4th, 5th and 6th are a bit 'meh'. I'm currently considering getting mine remapped. You can apparently get around 260bhp, sometimes more, with little effort. The people I've read comments from that have had it done say it makes all the difference.

Then he might as well just buy a Mondeo. :D
