hi guys,

Currently got a P2250 and a HIS 6970. Been looking at too many nice eyefinity setups on youtube so I am really thinking about this... but got a couple of questions.

The P2450 is not that much more than the P2250 was/is (if you can find it)
they are both 1920 x 1080 but I don't know what to do in terms of the sizes.

I'd rather not buy 3x P2450s as I already have the P2250.

So should I just get another 2x 22" monitors or 21.5" which I think the P2250 actually is anyway.

I was looking at this:

Should I be looking at anything else instead? I play fast-paced games and one VERY fast-paced game.

With regards to the actual set up - I believe I need a display port for eyefinity to work which my 6970 has two mini DPs.

Could someone explain exactly what I need to enable eyefinity (ie. cables etc)
and let me know if I should not get the monitor above with suggestions that would be awesome.

Cheers,

Wu

An ideal Eyefinity setup is 3 identical monitors. A perfectly good setup is 3 identically sized monitors running the same resolution. In my case, I have a year old 26" 1920x1200 DGM L2647 and 2x 24" 1920x1080 Iiyama E2409HDS's (which I bought last month). This means when I'm gaming I have to run the middle screen at 1920x1080 and everything is stretched very slightly to fit the screen. Do you know what? This honestly doesn't bother me in the slightest! I still think the experience is simply stunning and I have yet to actually notice that my character in the game is slightly taller than he should be. I also have no monitors with height adjustment and the two smaller screens are too low down. Couple of bits of wood the right height under the stands sorted that a treat until I get round to buying monitor arms for them. :)

My advice would be that if you'd be happy running 22" Eyefinity, then do it. Get another two screens, sling them either side of your Samsung if you're happy with that and get gaming. Unless you're one of these people that needs their desk set up exactly with everything at right angles, you will love it. Don't worry too much about getting the perfect, identical setup because when you're actually gaming you will spend too much time in the game and grinning and won't notice that the bezels and stands on your monitors won't match.

I am afraid I cannot offer advice on the screen you've suggested as I've no experience of modern screens outside my three. However, cables I can help with! You are right in that you need one of your 3 screens to run on the Displayport output. It's something to do with the card being able to produce two clock signals which DVI & HDMI need and Displayport doesn't. If your monitor doesn't have a Displayport input (and who does!) then you will need a Displayport to DVI Active adapter, a passive one will not do. If you are running OVER 1920x1200 on the Displayport screen, then you will need a Dual-Link adapter. If you're running 1920x1200 or below, a single link adapter is perfect, and cheaper.

My advice for your setup would be two monitors connected to the DVI outputs of the card, then the third connected from the DVI input on the screen to the Displayport output on the cardusing this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-150-OK.

Hope that is of some help mate.

EDIT - Just remembered that some people recommend Displayport to VGA adapters, which are cheaper and don't have the passive/active distinction. However, some say they work perfectly where others haven't been able to get them working at all. For the sake of £22 I PERSONALLY would recommend sticking with the Mini Displayport to DVI adapter as that is designed for the job in hand and known to work.
