Considering first 144Hz monitor

Hello.

I've had an IPS 60Hz monitor for years now (AOC I2367fh), but have never felt satisfied with its performance for gaming. It feels unresponsive and a bit blurry for fast motion games, and am considering a budget 144Hz monitor. I've heard how smooth these are supposed to be, but I keep reading that the colour accuracy is really poor compared to 8 bit IPS displays. I haven't seen one in person to compare, and am just wondering how much of a difference there will be?

I'm considering the AOC G2460FQ 24" because of the price. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-024-AO

Is this monitor any good, or do I need to buy an expensive one? Also, would I be shocked at the colour accuracy if using it as a second monitor with my current IPS display?

Sorry if this type of question has been asked loads of times.

Thanks :)

Whats your budget mate? What GFX card do you have? What games do you play?

The Asus ROG is currently the best gaming monitor but 2015 looks to be an interesting year in monitors...

Thanks for the quick replies. I can wait but those IPS ones sound like they will be very expensive lol. My budget is preferably less than £200. I have a 2GB GTX 770 and I mainly play shooters such as BF3, CS:GO and COD:AW.

Go for that AOC then... it's the same one as this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-007-AO&groupid=17&catid=1851

Apart from usb input and height adjust...

Do you reckon there is much difference in colour accuracy between these AOC ones and the more expensive Iiyama ProLite for example? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-118-IY&groupid=17&catid=1851 I'm willing to invest more money if there's a night and day difference between the colours of cheaper and more expensive ones. Cheers.

P.S. I love your home cinema set-up!

the 144Hz AOC has better than average colours for a 144Hz monitor, but the colour quality will probably be garbage compared to what you are used to.

still, if motion blur annoys you more than crappy colours, try out the AOC :)

not 100% sure if you will be able to push 144fps in new games with a 770, but most games should be fine. motion blur will be non-existant unless intended by the game's engine.

I've never tried Gsync but I have an 120Hz monitor and it's not worth sacrificing an IPS panel for the higher Hz IMO.

Gsync may change my mind but without seeing it in person it's difficult to say.

While I miss the viewing angles of my old 24in hp IPS, I'm very pleased with the ROG swift. No smeary image, no tearing, 144Hz. For FPS gaming gsync and 120Hz+ is too good to go back to a 60Hz IPS panel (IMO).

At 120hz or 144hz, some games like crysis 3 still have a pronounced jitter to them... gsync gets rid of the jitter
Gsync allows you to turn settings up a notch and still get smooth gameplay, as well as helping games that would otherwise be beyond help

With gsync off i certainly notice dips down to 120 or less, with it on it can dip off to below 80 before i even notice

If you are used to 60 and only use 60 then it could probably drop to 40 and you wouldnt really notice

Yeah I cannot stand the motion blur and just overall "sloppy" feel that I'm getting with the IPS display. I think I shall just take the plunge because I'll still have my IPS monitor next to it for Photoshop and films etc. :)

I'm happy to turn the settings down to achieve decent frame rates. In the past image quality meant more to me, but now I've changed my mind and favour performance. Hopefully I'll notice a competitive improvement with this monitor.
