So how much would I be looking at? I would need the full shabang, mouse, keyboard, everything.

I'd rather not spend a fortune.

I'm sure you can get everything you need for running any games out today under £600. Are you looking to build or buy pre built? You could go cheaper but it might struggle...

If it's everything - including monitor all peripherals and components more like £800

but if 2nd handed, definitely can do under £600!

which system do you want (i5/i7/c2d/q2q)?

Not too fussed on CPU to be honest, would rather spend the little extra on GPU.

The other thing is I wouldn't mind spending a little bit extra on the monitor.

Left off Mouse, KB and Monitor, done main components.

Just tried a quick £600 spec. Quite hard..! But this includes a cracking last gen graphics card which will still handle everything now on full (bad company 2, MW2 etc...)

Quad core too...

But yeah, if you could stretch to £800 then you would open up quite a few more better options as above.

This sticky is worth looking at, specifically the £700 builds

The above looks good but i would recommend going for a Corsair CX400w and remember that you can get the ddr3 off the MM or popular auction site.

^ yeah I was trying to keep it in my budget;) Apparently there's nothing wrong with the power supply, came up on the forums a while ago and ocuk said it was tested and fine... But yeah I'd rather go branded myself.

Build myself.

£600 seems reasonable.

If you want to do it for 600 all in I'd definitely consider going 2nd hand for most bits. Maybe go new for the case/monitor so it actually looks shiny and new though. :D

Something like this should still do pretty well in most games, prices are a rough guide to what you'll be able to get 2nd hand on the MM or elsewhere:

Q6600 70-80
CPU cooler (titan fenrir, akasa venom or something like) 20-25
P45 chipset board 40
4GB DDR2 35-40
500W+ PSU 30-40
HD 4870/4890/GTX 260 60-85
DVD-RW 10
Windows 7 65-70
SATA HDD 20-40 (depending on size ofc)

So that comes to 350 or so starting price giving you 250 to splash out on a nice monitor/case/keyboard/mouse.

keyboard and mouse wise I'd suggest the G11 and the MX518. :)

Exactly what Stupot said, a pre built system might save you a bit more.

Even the sub £50 dual core AMD CPUs should not be ignored, easily capable of playing modern titles.

Build yourself definately you then have a degree of control where your money is going.

Google phenom ii unlocking. Most games don't use 4 cores so a X2 550/555BE (with aftermarket cooler) would be acceptable for gaming and you have the chance of unlocking it to an X3 or X4. As long as you have an AM3 mobo you can upgrade the CPU much later (intel is changing sockets!) if necessary.

The nvidia 460 is a good budget card and on the input front a lot of mobo's only have one ps2 connector so u can run a keyboard or mouse not both. It's probably best to invest in a reasonably cheap USB wireless setup

Good luck with the build

Its like choosing the cheapest components and sticking in a good gfx card. what is your absolute max budget? £700 can make it so much easier.
