i have been offered some brand new "jamex" springs to lower a rover coupe vvc by 40mm.

i am a complete noob to this kind of thing so..

how easy are they to fit?
is it alright to only use springs? do i need uprated suspension other bits aswell?
are jamex a reasonable brand?
anyone lowered a coupe using these springs? and di you have positive results?

cheers for any advice

on a side note, your 20 ya? who are you insured with on the coupe as i cant seem to get insurance with anyone :( being under 21 (sorry for the hijack)

Lowing on the original shocks will lead to premature death as they are then under more load than they would be normally, partially compressed all the time etc. Depends how many miles your planning to do really on them, G-Max do some cheapish shocks/springs for the coupe iirc, Koni's are a little more and then Avos more again.

Try on rovertech or rover coupe mate, more people will have an idea on there :)

norwich union, had it when i was 19! i pay 750 a year for it tpft ( on a side note, when getting quotes make sure they are for the coupe!! when i was getting quotes some were coming out really cheap, because the company thought it was a 218 IS or sumthing, and read about someone not checking and been cought out after an accident!)

at the moment doing 10k plus, and roads around here are fairly bumpy and potholed!

 you as policy holder?? gonna have to check em out, wait is this a 220 ? or a 216?

It really depends on the state of your current dampers. If they are in good condition then a set of -40mm should be no real hardship for them, but if they have any real noticable wear then lowering springs will amplify the wear rate and they won't be up to controlling the rebound of the spring.

May be the case but I've covered several thousand miles on lowered shocks/standard springs and not had any issues with the dampers - then again, it may just mean that they lasted two years instead of four or somesuch :D

Had 3-4" off one as well on standard shocks, still no issues with the dampers. Hell of a lot of problems with everything else though :D
