Considering new car time

70 mile round trip commute = used/preowned EV imo. Thats sort of daily mileage is doable even with granny charging (granny charging = 8-9 miles replenished per hour of charging). And will cost pennies to run in comparison to a diesel (or any ice car tbh).
If you have a driveway with space for a proper charger then even better.

A 3 year old EV will have most of its depreciation done by then so you could potentially get a very nice model and specimen for that kind of money you've budgeted.

I second this as I done just this nearly two years back.

I bought a 3 year old 64kW Kona EV to handle my 60 mile round commute to work on the motorway. Overall it’s saved me a lot of money in fuel however it’s worth noting most of the first years savings were spent getting my home charger installed.

The EV has made my long commute much more pleasant, but that’s partly down to the fact it’s auto (I’ve always had manuals before) and has loads of nice features such as adaptive start/stop cruise and heated steering + seats. The remote pre-heat functions are also a blessing!

When petrol cars are a minority and fuel is expensive. Probably not as far away as you think.

I guess if you want to prove a point and keep paying a lot of money to stick it to 'the man?' or whoever then fair enough, i just don't see why you'd not want to save a ton of cash and have a better driving experience?

Your use case is perfect for a used EV

If you're doing 70 miles a day over 5 days that almost 17k a year, so that'll be costing you what? £2500 a year in fuel? a used EV would cost you about £350 for the year.

I do over 15k a year in my used Q4 and I really don't miss filling up with diesel at all. My previous new Q7 50tdi cost a fortune to run compared to the Q4, especially with me running the Q4 on 95% home charging at 7p a unit.

If you want a 48 month PCP Audi RS3 & Golf R are being currently offered on 25 plates for well under £600 a month as few people want them due to running costs!

Why don't you want an EV, @IvanDobskey ? I'd hate to go back to ICE having got used to ours. It's just a better car quite apart from anything else. If it doesn't work for your use case, and it doesn't for some, then fair enough but it seems ideal for yours. You're not doing the regular miles for charging to be an issue, and you have plentiful off-road space to charge, so what's the problem? If you haven't driven an EV, I'd encourage you to do so - I think they'll surprise you.

Yeah im only using the granny 3 pin charger at the moment for my 60 mile commute and so far that's been fine, so much so i'm really doubting whether its worth splashing the cash to get a proper charger installed.

I do that do. It works completely fine.

absolute piety sat in a vegan EV interior

If minimization of ownership cost is not predominate (23K's a good wedge) still need to identify an ev within your budget you would like to own from it's design/driving-experience.
( capitalism - This is an ev! And for me it's a symbol of my individuality, and my belief... in personal freedom )

I'm not hijacking just stating - my 2014 M135i has supposedly got a leaking turbo, so I'm considering replacing it now and have been tempted by the 128ti, but its about £14k to upgrade to a 22 plate one on about 30000 miles, so just not sure what to do. I can afford to spend about £15k without ruining my savings whilst adding my car on at about £8k I guess for about £23k to spend but i really struggle with dealing with salesman on large purchases like this so havent taken the plunge to actually go to a dealer.

but for now ill book it in for a service and MOT in 3 weeks time.

Let's call a spade a spade. There's no such thing as vegan leather...it's bloody plastic

I mean it's good mental gymnastics to get people to pay premium prices for not so premium interiors.

You mean like LVT - Luxury Vinyl (Floor) Tiles - expensive plastic/lino no one would buy it.

As for the actual car question, 36 months ago or less there would have been like 1 or 2 people saying look at an EV, now it is the vast majority, how quickly times change. :)

Is there an EV related question attached to this we can help with…? Eg what’s your use case or daily drive, parking situation etc.

It's not usually much more plastic than the "leather" options which are plastic coated in all but the higher end stuff anyway. The material underneath is made of plant fibres or mushroom. But, yeah, it's about as much leather as I am a sex symbol.

tbf this is a computer enthusiast forum, so i would expect some of us to be early adopters and others like dinosaurs so im not surprised
i would hazard average joe on the street to balk at the idea of an ev

I am a sex symbol.
this you?

I'm definitely not going full EV :p

Would definitely consider a hybrid though.

Got a test drive booked in the civic for tomorrow :D

Seems my Leon is worth 7k, so 16k to do the trade..
