Considering swapping back to the CM-690

Hi

i would say do it.The cm690 is a great case ;).I looked at the raven when it came out and the one thing that stopped me is that i move the computer at least twice a day.And would end up leaving the top panel off for speed and the raven looks naff with it off.
How about adding a Scythe Kama-Bay System/Hard Drive Cooler top help the cooling.Oh and the Scythe Kaze Maru 140mm's are a bit noisy if left to run flat out

Ok you move more than most :D
Is bulk or weight the main issue?
Although you said you didnt want a new case an aluminuim case will be a hell of a lot lighter.

& CAD s pretty painful no matter what you do it on imo :D

As for cooling I would replace the fans on the mega with 2 x noctura p12s & use what you have as case fans

Weight isnt an issue - i can carry the weight fine but size makes it really awkward.

Having a decent PC certainly makes it less painful lol.

I hate those Noctuas and dont think theyre worth the money. These 1900rpms arent actually that loud and keep things very cool. CPU temps are alright in the 690, its my 2x9800GX2s that get a tad toasty.
Last time I was in OcUK store I asked for opinions on the Noctua fans and they said all tests theyve done have but them behind the Akasa Apaches for everyhting but noise, they didnt think the Noctuas should be as popular as they are but at that price they werent complaining lol.

I have never seen a case with the MB like that

Silverstone have a couple of cases like it - does actually improve temps.

Buy a laptop or second pc. Problem solved.

More than average - my course is pretty heavy so i cant come home and not work, and the CAD work is painful to do on my laptop (Vista causing issues again).

I have a laptop - It doesnt cut it. And it is a high spec laptop. I have stated I do not wish to buy a new case, why would I want to buy a completely new PC of any kind?

Some less than helpful posts coming through

Tomorrow I am going to put my Silverstone on an auction site with a reserve - If it goes then Ill switch.
Ill also strip the 690 down completely, give it a good clean out and spray the internals black.
I think I am leaning towards the 690 atm.

Well you already own two cases... and besides doesn't everyone on here want to build a new PC relatively frequently? ;)

Sorry you found my response less than helpful.. just my thoughts were that it'd be easier to just leave a PC at the parents house.

Just getting tired of going around in circles.
Easier yes, but I thought it was pretty pbvious that I dont have the funding for any more components, and a PC of similar spec to the one I already have would cost £850 which completely defeats the point.
Then i would have 2 computers out of term time - completely pointless.
And I would still have to transport it about.

Or I could just choose one of the cases and get on with life, which is what I was looking for opinions on.

EDIT:
Just finished spraying it all black - looks good but needs a few hours to set properly.
Trimmed some of the parts out. Going to put my Raven up for auction now and we'll see what happens.
Will post some pics regardless.

It just looks wrong. Most noticibly the psu cables and connectors. It totally defies the purpose of having "neat tidy & cable management" it appears asif the designers wanted to show off the cablings by sticking a window there too.

That is totally my fault though. When I first built it the cable management was emaculate, since I have upgraded mobo, CPU, cooler, graphics, one at a time and its gradually got less tidy.
It only looks wrong if you are fixed in your ways, its different because of some intelligent thinking.
Those GPU power connectors do bug me too though - cant warrant a new PSU just to tidy them up though.

I have completely dissmantled the 690 and sprayed the frame after removing the HDD cage. Im waiting for it to set properly and some parts to arrive then I will piece it back together again and make the switch. Still havent put my Raven up for auction yet though.
