Consistency screen?

Morning.
I just booted up my PC and a black screen came up with "checking disk c: consistency" or something.

Little info:
I bought this PC from a friend, the PSU failed on him so I bought and replaced it. When I switched it on right after a new PSU, I often saw the 'consistency' screen.
I formatted the whole hdd and installed W7 fresh, which I wanted to do anyway, and it's been fine for a while. Until that screen again.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do?
Did the old PSU damage the HDD when it would cut out during boots ect?

Thanks.

Hopefully it's just damaged some files when it improperly shut down. If it does it on every boot, run the check disk and watch what it says, as it should notify of bad/damaged sectors. If it does say there's a problem, you may want to consider backing everything up and ordering a new hard drive. In my experience with bad luck the drives don't last long at all after you start getting errors.

And forgive my lack of knowledge, but if I were to just copy everything onto a new hdd, wouldn't that cause a new hdd to have problems? Since it's the files and stuff.
Or is it the actual drive itself that's' damaged?
