Console demand (Series X) falling?

I see the CEX are selling the Series X for £650 now (less if unboxed / discounted). I'm sure the selling price for this used to be much higher...

Is this a sign that the supply of these consoles is starting to keep up with demand?

I'd be surprised if demand was lower given that Christmas is coming. Xbox is a great buy with Game Pass, especially for those struggling to build/upgrade a PC for a reasonable price, and the PS5 is second-to-none for high quality exclusives.

Maybe Series X secured a higher allocation, but I can't see availability improving until we're well into 2022.

I think it's possible that a lot of people that (really) want a console have already managed to buy one (and at least some of these would've been willing to pay a premium). That's because many shops have been telling people roughly when they expect to have stock - So, perhaps people have got used to checking often (rather than the stock being bought up mostly by scalpers).

It could also be that prices have started to fall on auction sites, because stock has become available in larger quantities at retailers selling scalped / used consoles like CEX.

The other obvious difference is that CEX is not offering much money to buy these consoles off people anymore, suggesting that they have sufficient stock already.

What do you guys think?

Are there many here that really want a Series X / PS5, but still haven't been fortunate enough to get one?

Or, are you looking to get one as a present for someone for Christmas?

Did anyone decide to buy a console from CEX / auction websites, and pay £100-£200 extra?

I want a PS5. Or did. I’m not even sure now. It just seems the perfect occasion to play the hundreds of Steam games I’ve never touched and if Sony start bringing more of their exclusives to PC then that’s a factor as well. Now all I have to do is wean myself off the trophy system.

Er no, when you can get them new for RRP is when the demand has dropped. Its been out a year man and still going for that much

A quick look at "sold" on eBay suggests they're now going for around £620-£630 on there in recent days which if anything is higher than it was a month or two ago when they were selling for c £575 on there

Well, the prices are coming down, not long ago they were priced at £800-£900 on CEX. They are also readily in stock, which is the main reason I think prices have fallen. They used to pay much more to sellers just to get these things in stock, now they have plenty, they don't need to.

The weirdest thing is the buying price on PS5 Digital Editions, just £169! No wonder they don't have any in stock. It looks like they don't want to encourage ppl to buy a diskless console...
