Console gamer needs help getting started on pc

Hi,

Long term console gamer.
Used to game on PC waaaay back in the day and am barely up to date in pc specs.

Would like some 4k gaming but 1440 should be OK.

Starting from scratch, including monitor + k&m

Budget around £1500 (could stretch a bit above that).

Any advice gratefully received

Do you want pre-built or build yourself?

Unfortunately 4k (decently) will be out of budget,

I'm looking at doing a setup for my boy and came up with the following, it's over your budget by couple hundred, but you could remove the AIO and instead get a peerless assassin 120 for less than £40 elsewhere (I don't think oc sell them) which will do the job fine, this will get you closer to your £1500 budget

Regarding the GPU I've gone for the 7800xt this will give you 1440p at max settings 60fps + , it will also do 4k if you wanted to change the monitor in the future or hook up to your TV. However this is really a 1440p card these days, a couple of years ago it would have been a definitive 4k card like my 6800xt (which is very similar in performance) I've gone for amd as Nvidia don't offer anything in the same budget that is as powerful.

You will also have to build the below yourself.

You can hunt around for cheaper items, for example the AIO in my list I've found elsewhere for only £70, but generally ocuk tend to be similar price to elsewhere on most stuff. You could end up in a situation where you've bought from 5 or so different shops. For me I use oc for customer service for the times they are a bit dearer it's worth it imo

A prebuilt with monitor and keyboard/mouse to play at 4K for £1500 is a big ask and probably impossible for AAA games, but you could do 1440p if your expectations are reasonable and 4K/60 is likely to be viable for older games if you have a 3060/4060 Ti or 6700 XT.
